Hello there and welcome to Smart - Paws K9 Academy and welcome to our funny farm!
Here is a little bit of my background and an introduction to our herd. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how I can help you and your fury family member (s).
My name is Haley! Located here in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. As of September 3rd, 2026, I am certified in ABI’s Canine and Behavioral Program. Following that I will be enrolling in their specialty program to further my education and training! Apart from school animals have always been a HUGE part of my life. As a kid I brought home every little critter I could get my hands on. Growing up on a small farm with my grandparents we had animals that ranged from horses in the barn all the way down to birds in the house and for a while one of those birds was my turkey, Wesley!
As a only child growing up the animals on the farm were who I ran to for everything. Good days, bad days and every day in between. As an adult now with 2 young boy’s animals are still a huge part in our day to day lives. Here on our “funny farm” as I like to call it. To the right you will see their picture and short stories for each!
Training animals is something that has always been a great interest of mine and is something I’ve preformed while working with trainers myself. I started this new journey due to the fact that we do have a hand full of dogs, mostly already mature adults and trying to learn to co-exist with each other. I can honestly say since starting my ABI program we have made tremendous leaps with our K9’s getting comfortable and finding what works for each individual pet. That’s when I thought “hey! maybe I can help others too!”
The term “fur babies” is an expression I use and mean to the bottom of my very heart. NO ONE wants to have to decide what pet to rehome ever but to rehome due to behavioral conflicts that you, yourself could not help. It’s the feeling of letting down one of your family members even if you have tried all you can try. This is not a feeling I wish to put on anyone ever, and so that’s why I am here! Even if just a quick consult, I am happy to try and answer any questions you may have and share some helpful tips or advice to help your home operate more smoothly.

Little and Buck. Can you guess who is who?
Little; A 2013 model and a Heinz 57 mutt is what I call her breed. I picked up Little as 16-year-old and girl that wanted all the adventure and she a 7-week-old ball of fur and honestly the rest is history. My little sidekick through high school, becoming a mom and even going to work with me every day at a vet clinic and sleeping on my desk.
Buck; Another older 2015 model and a true Heinz 57 mutt. I watched this big guy come into the world, and it was love at first sight. Now my million-dollar old man and worth every penny. He is our “referee” as we call him and always watching out for our family. A dynamic duo where Little calls the shots, and Buck follows with a smile.
Pepper And Skip; Two-pups one brain.
Pepper “Pom Pom” the half and half faced princess pictured to the right. Just a puppy herself pepper is special in more ways than one. She is my oldest son’s dog and the timing of getting this girl, along with how her birthday is the day after his (different years) She has a Golden Retriever personality, but hyper-focused and ball driven like an Australian Shepherd makes them a match made in heaven. She has been a great volunteer for my schooling and participating in learning new things and fixing some of our not-so-great behaviors. Pepper loves, well love, and has more energy than the energizer bunny himself. My hopes are to get Pepper and my son in some agility sports classes!
Skip the Hound/Golden Retriever that we absolutely did not need, but to be fair we didn’t necessarily choose Skip, he chose us. To be specific he chose my youngest who was born in December, and we brought Skip home the end of April. 12 weeks when we went and picked up his two brothers in a rescue situation. Terrified of his own shadow he found comfort in the baby. He found confidence in Pepper. He laid with Buck in the driveway off leash and just watched like “yup this is home.” So I never did argue. Skip is permeant resident now of our funny farm and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Goober and Roscoe;
Goober lives up to his name and just shy of being a cow, and not just with his colors. His sound effects and ability to find dirt anywhere. Newer to my life but was rescued from the shelter by my other half many moons ago he’s an older gentleman and the typical “pitbull nanny-dog.” Even enjoys my recliner with or without me in it. He is a best Goober boy.
Roscoe; This stunning young pup is what started me on this adventure! Also newer to our farm and coming from a rescue situation and he wants to love so bad! Unable to voice his fears past and present it’s our job as owners to read his body language and help him! That’s where this adventure starts!
Last but never the least Maple girl. This sweet girl was a birthday present for a family friend and after having her a few days we realized that she is completely BLIND! But don’t let that fool you this girl is all go and no woah. She has no idea that she is any different and keeps up with the rest of the herd no problem. Maple is living with us for a while, and we have started “clicker” training with her. I am excited to find what sensors work best for her and how I can help her navigate better.
